So yes, I understand that having failed to update yesterday, I broke my New Year's Resolution and am thus a horrible person.
That said, let's move on to the elephant in the room: the Super Bowl is tomorrow, and I have yet to announce my pick!
Unlike last year, I haven't given a whole lot of thought to my pick for this year. The reason for that is two-fold:
1) I think the Steelers are that good
and
2) The party I'm going to is a de facto Steelers party, so regardless of my personal feelings, I have to root for Pittsburgh.
Seriously, though, on paper the Steelers should have this game in hand. However, the Cardinals are reminding a lot of people about the Giants in '07-'08: a team that sneaked into the playoffs and then got hot at the right time.
For this reason, I don't think anyone that picks Arizona is making a stupid pick; history shows that they might very well be the ones celebrating tomorrow night. Larry Fitzgerald could very well be the very best player in the game.
Both QBs have played in--and won--Super Bowls, although it's been nearly a decade since Warner won his last one in 2000.
So go on and fill up on greasy snack food--America's unofficial holiday is nearly here.

2009 Super Bowl Pick(s)

Week Two NFL Picks
Once again, my picks are based on gut feelings more than anything else and should not be used if you are seriously gambling on game results...
Packers over Lions. Congratulations to Aaron Rogers on a very nice NFL debut.
Chiefs over Raiders. The Chiefs actually hung in there with the Patriots and Oakland...well...umm...I hear the Bay is really pretty this time of year...
Giants over Rams. If we're lucky St. Louis will actually remember that there's a football game on Sunday this time around.
Vikings over Colts. Okay, I guess this makes my upset special (hey, last week, I TOTALLY called the Titans over the Jags!) but last week the Colts looked like a mess against the bears and I'm not sure one week will be enough to right the ship. Two, certainly, but one is pushing it.
Titans over Bengals. Even without Young, I still like this team.
Saints over Redskins. They looked great in the first game, and Washington, not so much.
Panthers over Bears. They earned this pick, but right now I am *so* glad I got Forte on my fantasy team.
Bills over Jags, thought it would be nice to see the Jags win and the Jets win and hello AFC East lead...
Seahawks over Niners. At least last week Seattle lost to a team that's expected to vie for a Wild Card spot...
Falcons over Bucs. Just because Matt Ryan is my fantasy quarterback.
Jets over Patriots. You know I had to.
Cardinals over Dolphins, but I think the line should be a lot closer than 4.5.
Ravens over Texans. Baltimore looked good week one.
Broncos over Chargers. Denver earned this pick after their performance last week.
Steelers over Browns. The Steelers being the one AFC hotshot team to live up to expectations last week.
Eagles over Cowboys. I'm still mad at Texas.

Week One NFL Picks
If you don't remember from last year, my predictions are based on nothing other than gut. Sometimes I go 1-14, sometimes I go 14-1. Here we go:
New York Giants over Washington Redskins. I am a Jets fan but I need to give Giants props for their Super Bowl win.
Detroit Lions over Atlanta Falcons. My brother is obsessed with Kevin Smith.
Seattle Seahawks over Buffalo Bills. The Seahawks are dangerous when healthy. Unlike the Sonics or the Mariners.
New York Jets over Miami Dolphins. This actually isn't a biased pick, but based on last year, I'll take anyone over the Dolphins...except Baltimore.
New England Patriots over Kansas City Chiefs. 18-1! Say it with me: 18-1!
New Orleans Saints over Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Maybe this is the year the Saints finally get somewhere.
Philadelphia Eagles over St. Louis Rams. My brother's best friend is an Eagles fan, this pick is for him.
Pittsburgh Steelers over Houston Texans. Just because.
Tennessee Titans over Jacksonville Jaguars. Thoughts and prayers with Jason Collier.
Cincinnati Bengals over Baltimore Ravens. Dude, Baltimore, you lost to the Dolphins. You don't get picked.
San Diego Chargers over Carolina Panthers. This doesn't change the fact that Shawn Merriman is an idiot.
Arizona Cardinals over San Francisco 49ers. For the Hell of it.
Dallas Cowboys over Cleveland Browns. Stupid Cowboys.
Indianapolis Colts over Chicago Bears. Can't pick against a Manning. They're kind of like Molina brothers. You can't pick against them.
Minnesota Vikings over Green Bay Packers. It's not that I don't believe in Aaron Rogers, it's that I believe in Adrian Peterson more.
Denver Broncos over Oakland Raiders. Broncos are legit.

NFL Picks: The Super Bowl, Part Two
As promised:
Why the Giants will win the Super Bowl
The only way I can explain it is destiny--teams that start 0-2 don't usually make it this far in a postseason--and yet this exactly what has happened.
At the beginning of the season, the Jets were the ones fresh off a playoff year; there was no question about Mangini as a coach, most experts had them at 9-7. The Jets, however, had what can best be described as a complete collapse...and the Giants didn't.
They had bad losses to Dallas, Green Bay...even Washington...but somehow, some way, they made it into the playoffs, and, as we all know, everything changes in the postseason.
So why will the Giants win the Super Bowl?
They've done that thing where they get better as the season goes on, unlike the Patriots, who struggled for their last win against the Giants, trailing by 12 at one point.
They've won an obscene number of games on the road, and the Super Bowl is many things, but a home game, it is not.
They've survived injuries to Shockey, who hasn't appeared in any playoff game and Burress, who has shown sheer grit through playing through an ankle injury that would sideline lesser men--if Maroney and Moss went down, I'm not sure the Patriots would be quite as immortal as everyone is making them out to be.
They've done all of this without Tiki Barber.
The Giants are kind of like the Rockies were last October--they sneak up on you, you're not expecting it at all because they're not one of the powerhouse teams in their league, yet, before you know it, they're there, in the final round. The difference is, the Giants now just have to win one game, not four.
The Patriots are past due for a loss.
New York is past due for some football glory.
The Giants have the momentum and the sheer bravado to get it done.
Tune in Sunday, February 3rd, to find out which it is!
I usually have a wager with my brother, but as this time he's a Giants fan and I don't want the Patriots to win, we'd both be picking the same side...
If I have to though,
Giants 34, New England 17.

NFL Picks: The Super Bowl
So since there is still another week before the big dance, I thought I'd do two different predictions--one why the Giants will win, and one why the Patriots will win.
I should be clear though, that even as a NY Jets fan, I am rooting 100% for the Giants. Why? When it's New York and New England, there's really only one choice. Unless it's hockey. In which case the choice is the Devils.
So, I'll get to it:
Why the Patriots will win the Super Bowl:
Okay. They're 18-0 so far, which is not only really good, but has never actually been done before. They have a quarterback who is having a 2007 A-Rod like season in terms of stats, but without any sort of opt out controversy.
The Patriots are good. Not just the run-of-the-mill good enough to get to the playoffs and maybe even the third round good, like some hockey and basketball teams, but good like the '98 Yankees, '72 Dolphins, the Bulls that one year, etc. They're Good.
This decade, the Patriots have played like the Packers and Cowboys of old, dominating the league to the point that it's just assumed they'll be in the postseason--and when your division contains the Jets, Bills and Dolphins, well, maybe that's all need be said. However, the Patriots haven't just dominated the AFC East; they've been better than nearly ever other team in the league. Only the Colts have come close to equaling their achievements in the conference over the past few years, and the AFC...well, they have won eight of the last ten Super Bowls.
This year, the Patriots have not just Brady, but Moss and Maroney, and a defense that, well, you know, it wins championships.
So they're good.
Okay, now that was rather hard to right as a Jets fan, but it's true. The Patriots are that good.
They might, however, not be good enough.
Check back next Thursday, same place, to see why the Giants will win!

NFL Playoff Picks, NFC and AFC championship games
First off, if you've never applied to graduate school...let's just say it's making it really hard to be an optimist.
Anyway.
The important stuff.
I did not catch either game on Sunday last--I was in the car during the Chargers-Colts game, driving back up to Syracuse from NJ, and while I had the Dallas-Giants game on TV when I got back, I spent most of the time drifting in and out of various states of consciousness and the only thing I remember with any clarity is TO's crocodile tears.
That said.
Patriots over Chargers. I'm not sure how the Chargers beat the Colts, but if anyone is going to beat the Patriots this year, I can't see it being San Diego. Especially not in Foxboro.
Green Bay over Giants. Speaking of weather-related football predictions, have you heard how cold it's supposed to be in Lambeau? Ice Bowl Redux, anyone? What can I say, it'll make Syracuse seem downright toasty. Anyway, I know the Giants play in awful weather, but when's the last time they played where the game time temperature was supposed to be at a high 13 F? Right.
Safe picks this week, but a Patriots/Green Bay Superbowl would be quite the event, wouldn't it? I mean, if Favre won that, what a way to go out...
Thursday, January 10, 2008
NFL Playoff Picks, Round Two
So this week I won't actually be able to catch any of the games, as I'll be driving back up to Syracuse on Sunday, which kind of stinks, but it doesn't mean I can't make some playoff predictions.
Last week, I went something like 4-0 (if you exclude the scores I suggested. Those were slightly off.)
Jaguars over Patriots. Yeah, I know, I'm a little insane, but, to be honest, I like the Jaguars. A lot. They have consistently grown on me throughout the season, and the Patriots...well, let's just say they need a little comeuppance. Jags, 35-31.
Colts over Chargers. I know the Chargers won last week, but I did not like the way they played most of the first three quarters against Tennessee, and Indianapolis is a heck of a lot better than the Titans. Colts, 28-14
Cowboys over Giants. I know a lot of people are picking the Giants in this, but for now I'm going to stick with the Cowboys, especially with the game in Dallas. Plus, you know Romo's itching to fix that botched snap. Cowboys, 28-24.
Packers over Seahawks. What can I say, I don't like to pick against Favre. Add in Lambeau Field in January (assuming that there actually is January weather), and there's just no real way I'm picking against the Pack. Packers, 31-28

NFL Playoff Picks, Round One
So this is awesome. By the time we're all done with the playoffs and whatnot, there will be less than two weeks until pitchers and catchers.
I don't know about you, but I'm stoked.
Oh, by the way, these scores are completely arbitrary.
Seattle over Washington. There's no denying that Washington has the heart and can easily be a Cinderella team, but I can't help feeling that Washington got lucky with the playoffs, after Minnesota failed. Seattle, 24-10.
Jacksonville over Pittsburgh. I don't know what happened to Big Ben and his squad, but underperformed isn't really a strong enough word for it. Jacksonville, on the other hand, is a team I would not be surprised to see in the AFC championship game. Jacksonville, 21-14.
NY Giants over Tampa Bay. It's tempting to pick Tampa, especially given the Giants faltering in the second half against New England, but the Giants are the better team. I won't be surprised if it's a close one. Giants, 24-21.
San Diego over Tennessee. Tennessee backed into the playoffs, whereas San Diego was able to overcome a horrid start. San Diego, 28-14.

NFL Picks Week 17
The regular season is almost over, but nearly all eyes will rest on just one game. Good thing (for the TV networks, at least) the game's on Saturday.
New England over Giants. I will be rooting quite vociferously for the Giants, but they don't have the discipline of the Patriots.
Seattle over Atlanta. Man, must be awful to be an Atlanta football fan right about now...
New Orleans over Chicago, though, to be honest, NO might be this season's biggest disappointment.
Cleveland over San Francisco. Cleveland certainly qualifies as biggest surprise of 2007.
Green Bay over Detroit, but losing to the Bears? Seriously? That disappoints me.
Cincinnati over Miami. Sorry, but 1-14? Yeeeghhh...
Buffalo over Philadelphia. It's weird, I should be supporting Philadelphia, but something tells me Buffalo, so Buffalo it is.
Tampa Bay over Carolina. Tampa's that one team this year that's exceeded expectations...but no one's talked about it.
Jacksonville over Houston. If any AFC team other than the Pats or Colts is going to the Super Bowl, it's these dudes.
Minnesota over Denver. Because. Adrian Peterson.
San Diego over Oakland. It's just too bad LT couldn't carry my entire fantasy team. Guess it's what I get for drafting the Jets defensive line...
Jets over Kansas City. For the pure and utter hell of it.
Arizona over St. Louis. I will be surprised if anyone outside of 'Zona or St. Louis is actually watching this game...
Dallas over Washington, though it'd be kind of crazy if Washington won, I think...
Pittsburgh over Baltimore. I'm not picking a team that lost to Miami.
Indianapolis over Tennessee. Sorry Titans fans!

NFL Picks Week 16
Dang, this season went fast.
All right, here we go, I know last week was horrible, but maybe this week will be better.
Pittsburgh over St. Louis. They need a good win in the worst way.
Dallas over Carolina. I'm pretty sure Jessica's not going to this game, which means T. Romo can focus. Carolina's playing for their playoff lives, but a lot has to go just right...kind of like the Rockies.
Giants over Buffalo. Because if the Giants don't win, they'd have to play the Pats to get into the playoffs, and we all know how that's (probably) going to go.
Green Bay over Chicago. Favre has all the important records. It's almost a pride thing at this point.
Cleveland over Cincinnati. To think, at the beginning of the season, we thought it would be Cincinnati fighting for the playoff spot...
Detroit over Kansas City. Detroit's a bit of a disappointment, after that start, isn't it?
Indianapolis over Houston. Gonna be some AFC championship game, isn't it?
Philadelphia over New Orleans. Heh, you beat Dallas, you get my pick.
Jacksonville over Oakland. AFC sleeper, the Jags are.
Arizona over Atlanta. When you lose Parcells to Miami, you have no manner of luck at all.
Tampa Bay over San Francisco. Run Michael run Michael, etc...
Tennessee over Jets. They need the win for the playoffs, the Jets need the loss for the draft. Not that we'd ever do something good with it, but that's besides the point.
New England over Miami, though Miami is riding the bigger wave of momentum.
Seattle over Baltimore. Dude, you lost to Miami? Even the Jets beat Miami, and they didn't even need overtime.
Minnesota over Washington. I like Adrian Peterson.
San Diego over Denver. Good to know somethings end as predicted.

NFL Picks Week 15 (!!!)
Dang, we're at the part of the year where they play Saturday games!
Anyway, seeing as there'll be something else to talk about later, here we go:
Denver over Houston. Denver gives me a better feeling inside.
Cincinnati over San Francisco. Come on now, another easy one.
Buffalo over Cleveland. Yeah, Cleveland won last week, but dude, you were playing the Jets.
Tennessee over Kansas City. Please don't disappoint again, Titans, I have more faith in you than that!
Green Bay over St Louis. Umm. Yeah.
Baltimore over Miami. 0-13? Dang, you lot make the Jets look good
Jets over New England. Because Irony is the spice of life and this'd be extra hot.
New Orleans over Arizona. Because my friend Dan is going to NO to work for Habitat over the break.
Jacksonville over Pittsburgh. Jacksonville has been playing much better than Pitt of late.
Tampa Bay over Atlanta. See St. Louis/Green Bay.
Seattle over Carolina. Seattle's a sleeper team.
Indianapolis over Oakland. At least Oakland's already exceeded expectations this year...
Dallas over Philadelphia. Easy pickings.
San Diego over Detroit. Remember how at the beginning of the season San Diego was bad and Detroit was good? Yea? Niether do I.
Giants over Washington, just cos it's the brother's birthday on Friday.
Minnesota over Chicago. Any team that willfully retains Rex Grossman ain't getting my pick.
Right, back later (as in, fourteen-ish hours) with more 'stuff', but first I have to sleep.

NFL Picks Week 13
I can't believe we're on Week 13 already. Wow.
There is one good thing, though: the further into the season we are, the closer to the end of fall semester I am!
Washington over Chicago. They have heart.
Buffalo over Miami. The game's *in* Buffalo...there's tons of snow on the ground. Miami ain't winning this one.
St. Louis over Cincinnati. Hey, it worked last week!
Dallas over Detroit. Glad I'm not a Giants fan.
Green Bay over Oakland. Favre is the Clemens of the NFL.
Tennesee over San Diego. This one was HARD, and in the end I went with Tennesee out of loyalty for my Titan readers...but dang, I can easily see this going either way.
Giants over Philadelphia, though the Giants aren't really playing well.
Jacksonville over Carolina. Roar.
Tampa Bay over Houston. Tampa Bay: sleeper of the NFC.
Minnesota over San Francisco. Hey, SF and NYJ have the same record!
Seattle over Arizona. My thoughts with those caught in that storm north and west.
Denver over KC. Because it's Denver. And it's KC.
Pittsburgh over New England. Yes, I am doing it, because I have to do it at least once when the Dolphins and the Jets aren't involved, and I forgot to do it last week.
NY Jets over Cleveland. Jets have been playing much better (we'll ignore the Dallas debacle) of late, and, well, I am a Jets fan. In case you forgot.
Indianapolis over Baltimore. Dude, if you're given a victory over the Pats all gift-wrapped and all you have to do is tie the bow...umm...no. I'm not taking you.
New Orleans over Atlanta. Remember when we thought this game would mean something?
Back in a little bit with NBA and NHL.

NFL Picks Week 13
So apparently there's a game today. (where have all the readers gone?)
Packers over Cowboys. This one's going to be good. Unfortunatley, none of us are going to get to see it.
Tennessee over Houston. With luck, Tennessee will change it's ways...
Indianapolis over Jacksonville. Another one worth watching.
San Diego over Kansas City. In spite of LT.
St. Louis over Atlanta, just to change things up.
Jets over Miami. Dude, if you hold the other team to three points and you still lose? Sorry man, you're cursed.
Detroit over Minnesota. They need a win, bad, and Minny might be perfect fodder.
Seattle over Philadelphia. Have to give props to the Eagles, though, for last week.
Buffalo over Washington, because I'm not really a Washington fan.
Carolina over San Francisco. *shrugs*
Denver over Oakland. Because they're Denver. And they're Oakland.
Cleveland over Arizona. Who wudda thunk this game would be so easy to pick?
Giants over Chicago. But only if they don't kick it to Devin Hester.
Tampa Bay over New Orleans. Tampa is a sleeper team.
Pittsburgh over Cincinnati. Maybe they'll score more than three points this time.
New England over Baltimore. More because Baltimore is sucking than because NE is good.
Wednesday, November 21, 2007
NFL Picks Week 12
Again, these are today because of the games tomorrow.
Green Bay over Detroit. Green Bay might be the only team that can take down the Pats.
Dallas over NYJ. One, picking against the Jets seemed to work for the Jets last week. Two, does Dallas lose on Thanksgiving? Ever?
Indianapolis over Atlanta. Maybe they'll actually cover the spread this time.
Tennessee over Cincinnati. Dude, if you lost to Arizona last week, I ain't picking you.
Cleveland over Houston. Okay, I'm not sure anyone thought Cleveland would be over .500 this late in the season. Wow.
Kansas City over Oakland. Hey, they almost beat the Colts.
Seattle over St. Louis. Hey, the Jets and St. Louis now have the same exact record. Yay?
NY Giants over Minnesota. No Adrian = no win.
Tampa Bay over Washington. Toss up.
New Orleans over Carolina, because my brother's university colors are black and gold.
Jacksonville over Buffalo. Losing to NE like Buffalo did is going to sting for a while.
Arizona over San Fransisco. It is so weird to pick Arizona...
Denver over Chicago. Can we say 'mediocre AFC West'?
San Diego over Baltimore. Toss up.
New England over Philadelphia. Can we say 'duh'?
Pittsburgh over Miami. See above.
Thursday, November 15, 2007
NFL Picks Week 11
Are we really at Week 11 already? Dang. I know it's a bit early for me to be posting these, but I might not get another chance today.
Tampa Bay over Atlanta. I'm feeling the pirate thing.
Cincinnati over Arizona. Toss up.
Detroit over NY Giants. I have been unduly impressed by the Lions.
Green Bay over Carolina. Brett Favre is really hot.
Indianapolis over Kansas City. Tough break for Indy, but they need the win.
Oakland over Minnesota, because didn't Minnesota lose Adrian Peterson or something?
Philadelphia over Miami. I do not pick 0-9 teams. Even if something's got to give.
Jacksonville over San Diego. Because the Jags are the only Florida team that can win on a consistent basis.
Cleveland over Baltimore. Sorry Mr. Ravens owner person, but you're not well liked.
New Orleans over Houston, but more of a toss up.
Pittsburgh over New York Jets. Talk about wounded pride...this one's a knife through the heart!
Dallas over Washington. Dallas or Green Bay is the best NFC team. I'm amazed it's not a greater rivalry.
San Francisco over St. Louis. Two wins are better than one.
Seattle over Chicago. Yet one more toss up.
New England over Buffalo. Dude, Buffalo, c'mon, help us out here....
Thursday, November 8, 2007
NFL Picks Week 10
You know, the teams I want to beat the Patriots? 1) NY Jets, 2) Miami Dolphins, 3) Buffalo Bills, 4) Anyone in the NFC.
Green Bay over Minnesota. Favre could beat the Pats single handedly.
Tennessee over Jacksonville; this should be a good one to watch.
Denver over Kansas City, because Denver is hungering for a win. Or should be.
Buffalo over Miami. Dude, you're 0-8, I'm not picking you.
New Orleans over St Louis. See above.
Pittsburgh over Cleveland. In this rivalry, I'd have to go with Pittsburgh. The Pirates, after all, didn't beat us in the bug game.
Washington over Philadelphia, though with the way Washington played last week, this one is about even.
Carolina over Atlanta. Assuming, of course, they can find a quarterback.
Baltimore over Cincinnati. I'm not sure who's the bigger disappointment, the Bengals or the Jets. Well, I guess the Jets. Cincinnati actually won that game.
Chicago over Oakland. Is anyone outside of Chicago or Oakland actually going to watch this one?
Dallas over NY Giants. Spiting the brother.
Detroit over Arizona. Don't look now, but a Detroit--Green Bay playoff game is not only possible at this point, but likely.
Indianapolis over San Diego. Heh, at the beginning of the season, we all thought this would be THE game...
Seattle over San Francisco. Hey, at least the writers for MNF aren't on strike!
Thursday, November 1, 2007
NFL Picks Week 9
So depending on the way you took my Bills/Jets pick, I went either 11-2 or 12-1 last week. Probably won't do the same this week, but dang, that felt GOOD.
San Francisco over Atlanta, because I just read an issue of Sandman that takes place in San Francisco.
Cincinnati over Buffalo because Trent Green isn't starting and, well, it's not really a great idea to have 'Loss' in your name as a starting QB.
Detroit over Denver. Because it worked last week.
Tennessee over Carolina. For you Titans fans. This team could be the sleeper of the AFC.
Green Bay over Kansas City. Farve is that good.
San Diego over Minnesota. San Diego winning? Good. LT so totally not performing on my fantasy team? Bad.
Jacksonville over New Orleans. I have no idea why I just did that. Maybe it's a hunch.
Jets over Washington, but you know the drill. If you're serious, you ignore my pick here. Glad to see Clemens getting a start. People with the 'Clemens' surname tend to be good at sports.
Tampa Bay over Arizona. I'm feeling the pirates this week.
Cleveland over Seattle, just going with the home field on this one. Oh, and the AFC owns the NFC.
New England over Indianapolis. Watch this one, though. I would so love to see the Colts stick it to the Pats...
Houston over Oakland, because I haven't picked Houston in a while.
Dallas over Philadelphia. Cowboy up?
Pittsburgh over Baltimore. Pittsburgh's another AFC sleeper.

NFL Picks Week Eight
[EDIT]: I keep thinking today is Thursday, even though it's not, to the point that I went and came up with this. So instead of deleting the entire thing, I'll do this today and NHL round-up tomorrow, and if you miss this today, I'll link to it tomorrow.
Kah-peesh?
...No one cared for World Series Preview in Verse?
Well, it was fun to write, so there =P.
Anyway, the stuff you want:
Detroit over Chicago because ESPN says Chicago's going to win, and we know how reliable ESPN is...
Pittsburgh over Cincinnati. The Steelers are pretty good, and the Bengals...well, they beat the Jets. They're better than the Dolphins, but probably not by much.
Tennessee over Oakland. The Titans could be greatly helped if someone taught them that the goal of the fourth quarter is actually not to blow a 20 point lead.
Cleveland over St. Louis. Dude, I'm not picking an 0-7 team. Strange, though--at the beginning of the season, everyone thought Cleveland would be the 0-7 team...
Giants over Miami. Giving up 42 points in the first half is bound to do wonders for Dolphins' morale. Say hi to London for me, I miss that place, even my cramped l'il flat on Edgeware Road.
Minnesota over Philadelphia, just because I haven't picked Minnesota to win a game in the while.
Indianapolis over Carolina. The Panthers are good. The Colts are better.
Jets over Buffalo, but if you're really serious you'll pick Buffalo. It's a pride thing, really, at this point.
San Diego over Houston, but there's a chance this one doesn't get played, or is played in Houston. Stay safe, everyone in Southern California!
Jacksonville over Tampa Bay in the Battle for Florida. Normally Miami would be involved, but Miami is an AAA team at this point. Actually, more like an A team. Anyway, I'm feeling Latin American cats this week over pirates.
New Engand over Washington. They're not going to score 42 points in the first half, but no one in New England's going to care about this game--not over the Sox at any rate.
New Orleans over San Francisco. Hey, if they can keep the losing at just four, they've got a realistic shot at the playoffs!
Green Bay over Denver. You are either admiring what Farve is doing, or you don't have a pulse. If the latter is true, please pick up the nearest phone and dial 911, now.
Back after WS Game 1 with postgame notes. At least it's not pouring right now. I won't have to walk through a lake to get to class!
Thursday, October 18, 2007
NFL Picks Week 7
Note: I'm going down to Maryland tomorrow and will be there most of Saturday. Don't know if I'll have time to update, so I'm hoping Cleveland wins tonight!
Anyway, the stuff you came to see:
Baltimore over Buffalo. I'm going to Maryland, so everything today is pro-Maryland. Well done to Everett for getting on his feet again.
Dallas over Minnesota. Yeah, Dallas lost to the Patriots last week, but a loss to the Patriots is like saying the sun is hot. Or that the Thrashers are having a bad season.
Tampa Bay over Detroit. My friend's going to the Rennaisance Faire with me on Saturday as a pirate. So pirates win out.
New England over Miami. And I thought Syracuse/West Virginia was a mismatch...
New Orleans over Atlanta. Now then, the Saints aren't really that bad....right?
NY Giants over San Francisco. Did you see last night, the Knicks lost to the Celtics and scored only 61 points?
Arizona over Washington. Trust me, the D-backs want to take their minds off of the NLCS badly.
Tennessee over Houston. For my other Tennessee friend.
Jets over Cincinnati, but ONLY because they're the Jets. In all honesty, I'm still mad pissed off about those uniforms last week...Meanwhile, I'm beginning to hear KELL-AN CLEM-ENS *clap clap clap*
Kansas City over Oakland. Just because Kansas City winning a football game is slightly less apocalyptic.
Chicago over Philadelphia. Uh, dude, guys, you were supposed to be playing against each other in the NLCS, not a football game...
Seattle over St. Louis. Well, on the bright side, at least St. Louis is not playing the Patriots. Actually, that's a bad thing, because when Miami loses, they at least have the excuse of, "well, we were playing the Patriots..."
Pittsburgh over Denver. They're getting a buncha guys back.
Indianapolis over Jacksonville. Looks like the Monday Night guys picked a good one.
ALCS postgame notes later tonight.
Thursday, October 11, 2007
NFL Picks Week 6
Apparently, last week, I did all right!
Chicago over Minnesota. They're playing a lot better, and without the Cubbies to keep Chicago occupied, the Bears should command the city's attention.
Green Bay over Washington. I imagine they're pretty PO'd about last week, and, well, Washington is Washington.
Jets over Philadelphia. Toss up, but for the Jets, this is more or less as 'must win' as they can get.
Jacksonville over Houston. Toss up. My mother once had a Jaguar. It was green. Jacksonville's got the cooler unis.
Cleveland over Miami. Dude, if you're 0-5, I'm not picking you. . Sorry. It seems your players are not recognizing the value of team work. In my opinion, they're relying more on sheer luck like poker newbies.
Cincinnati over Kansas City. Still peeved at Cleveland enough to pick that other Ohio team this week.
Tennessee over Tampa Bay. One of you loyal readers is a Tennessee fan, so I'm picking for you...and because I love Greek mythology so much.
Baltimore over St. Louis. Please see Cleveland/Miami.
New England over Dallas. Obviously, the game of the week. Picking NE because it's not just that NE and Dallas are 5-0, it's the way that NE is 5-0. Just like a bulldozer, really. Which sucks. I want them to lose. Sorry PeteAbe!
Arizona over Carolina. Because Arizona being over .500 really is that weird.
San Diego over Oakland. Come on LT, back me up!
Seattle over New Orleans. See Cleveland/Miami and adjust for 0-4.
Giants over Atlanta. Spiting the brother is fun, but spiting Micheal Vick gives me a special satisfaction.
