The Catharsis Is Still There

A few weeks after 11 September 2001, there was a concert held in Madison Square Garden in NYC for all of the fallen firemen, policemen and other heroes of that day.

Then-mayor Rudy Giuliani came up in between musical acts to say a few words. I don't remember exactly what he said, but by the end of it all of the audience was saying one thing:

LET'S GO YANK-EES!

Even now, memories of that speech provide a catharsis. America's greatest wound since Pearl Harbor, and baseball healed us.

It's more than just a game.

  2. More than a game? Yeah, I agree. The memories, the playing catch in the yard with my brother, and going to Yankee stadium for the first time.... Sigh. Thanks for reminding us.

P.S. I don't think I like the moderation feature. Moderate after, not before publishing, if possible. You can always take comments off if they get too disrespectful.

  3. It really did turn out to be quite a season that year.

Baseball made a point of showing that it truly is Americas pasttime.

Can you believe it was 6 years ago? Doesn't seem like it, even though so much has happened since..

  5. Pete--Mine too.

    EKSmd--

I wanted to be able to let people post anonymously, but it seems moderation really isn't worth it.

    Don't worry, it's not lasting =)

    Yankees fan in Boston--

No, I can't believe it, I feel like it was yesterday

    Charles: Let's go Yankees!

  6. I can never understand how human can do such a terrible thing to others. I was in the Taiwanese Army when 9-11 happened. For a long time till now, China has lots missiles aim at Taiwan ready to launch. And, they still claim we are part of them because of the history and blood. I don't think I can totally grasp how terrible you guys felt and the lost you guys had but I do know how serious, crazy, and stupid it is to hurt someone you don't even know.

Thanks for the music, sports and art. At least, we all can find some peace and in them. 9-11 is an incident we all should not forget!
