Pregame notes 12 September 2007

For Mike Mussina, tonight is do-or-die.

He's not started in over two weeks after failing miserably in his previous three; if he does not go past the fifth or sixth inning tonight, do not look for him to start another game for the Yankees this season.

It's a bit of a pity--Mussina's had, until now, an excellent career, but not much to show for it. He has nearly 250 wins, but he's never had a 20-win season, and he's never gotten a ring. He's gotten his chances at it, to be sure...

While it's a foregone conclusion that if any Yankee gets the MVP, it will be A-Rod, Posada should at least finish in the top five. Even when A-Rod had cool spots, Posada's been there--batting near .340 in September. That is SOME year.

Matsui's in a horrible slump right now, but you all know it's just going to take one really good game to get him out of it. He'll probably never admit he's slumping, but you have to remember this is a guy who apologized to his team for being injured.

Sounds like a pretty cool teammate to me.

Let's Go Yankees!

More, after the game!

  1. With Moose on the hill, we are maximizing the offense. Otherwise, I would suggest sitting Matsui for a couple of games IOT allow his knees to heal up a bit [especially on the artificial surface of Rogers' Centre].
Tonight, Gojiru is in left and Johnny D the DH. My, my....
I agree completely that Matsui is the type of teammate one would want, and I hope tomorrow we can sit him, maybe have Johnny in left with Jason at DH. AJ Burnett is going tomorrow, and since he's a righty, I'd start Betemit [he can bat okay from the left side] and keep Minky for late inning defense.
Well, that's why Mister Torre makes the big bucks :-) Go Yankees!

  2. We'll see what happens--though I really do wish Damon was playing in left; I love Matsui but I actually think Damon plays a better left...

AJ Burnett won't be easy, President's got his work cut out for him, but the Yankees are the Yankees and stranger things have happened!

  3. We have lots tough guys on our team. Matsui is one of them. He is so professional and he act like a samurai. Hopefully these tough guys can help the soft Moose a bit so he can regain his old self. We need squirrel badly today to shut down the Jays.

Don't worry! Matsui will take all the time he needed to transform into Godzilla and use his magnificent tail to sweep Boston.

  6. I have a good feeling that Moose will go 7 innings and give up only 3 to 4 runs.

  7. Well, let's hope the Yankees score some more runs then =D

  8. Any one know what the umpire is yelling? It is kind of wired.

  9. Come on Moose!! Just relax and locate your balls...... It is easy for me to say it here in front of my computer but it definitely very difficult for the one who is playing out there. Seems like Moose curve is working well for him. That will make his fast ball look like a real one.

I lose the bit on Moose but he was great. I like his knuckle curve.

  22. Great game. We've now won the series with Toronto, an excellent thing since AJ Burnett is pitching tomorrow.

At worst, we'll go 5-4 on the Road Trip, but it wouldn't surprise me now if we go 6-3 or 7-2 or even 8-1...I won't say the other possibility though, dun wanna jinx that! ;-D
