A Prayer and Some Off-Day Notes

While I am not a Buffalo Bills fan, my thoughts and prayers are with Kevin Everett.

If you have not heard, the Bills tight end suffered a horrible, horrible neck/spine injury in yesterday's game, and may or may not walk again.

Let's hope for a full recovery, Bills fan or not.

Yankees go up to Toronto next, and against Marcum and Burnett, we've got Hughes and Kennedy. Mussina will start our middle game, though I'm not sure who's on the hill for Toronto, except that it's (Thank G-d) not Halladay.

Unlike KC, a sweep would actually be a lot to ask for--a series win, and a 5-1 start to the road trip would be excellent. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for sweep, but Toronto is a +.500 team, and in another division (like the NL Central), they are playoff-caliber. Not 'easy wins' by any stretch of the imagination.

Still, momentum is on the Yankees' side for the moment. A-Rod has been a monster and Yankee pitching has been better than good enough.

However, good karma doesn't last forever: Boston's playing Tampa...

I'm going to make good use of the off day and get some coursework done.

  1. Sounds like not walking might be the least of Kevin Everett's problems. ESPN1050 here is reporting that his life could be in jeopardy. Very scary. Football can be so barbaric sometimes. That's why I prefer baseball.

  2. Baseball is deceptive, though--I'm sure the minor league coach killed by a line drive or Juan Encarnacion will tell you it's no less dangerous. Unlike football, it's not likely you'll injure your spine, but it's much more likely you'll injure your head if you're not careful.

Injuries are horrible. Thankfully, most of them are minor...

Here's to hoping Everett will be able to make a full recovery--I'm sure he'll take being on the sidelines, but alive over the other option any day.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

  3. You're right of course. It just seems to me anyway that fluke baseball injuries are few and far between. In football, every few years someone seems to get paralyzed, or suffer some spinal damage. A lot of the players are such a mess by the time they get to their 40's. I do enjoy watching football, but sometimes we forget how brutal it can be.

And like you, my thoughts are with Everett and his family.

  4. Congrats on the 1000+ hits, Rebecca. I'm sure you will have many, many more.

You are such an avid fan (I guess like most of us). What do you do in the off season to get your baseball fix? Is there streaming of non-major league games on the internet? I would LOVE to pick a favorite team in the winter leagues to listen to and cheer for.

    Keep up the good work!!

  5. eksmd: Well, I follow the Jets, Devils, Nets and Syracuse basketball (though not quite as avidly).

I am also a compulsive reader, and I write fiction, and if you add that in with schoolwork, it's not a bad way to spend time.

    I also knit.
